The traditional vision of economic development has generally been framed by the attractiveness and availability of financial resources. Although this consideration is important from a development perspective, it is not enough to guarantee such economic development. The destination of economic resources towards productive activity depends on factors such as the ability to introduce new technologies, new management methods, innovative social and institutional actions, as well as the formation of productive and development networks. From this global perspective, the objective of the research was to analyze the vision of local economic development, under the criteria of different social factors in the Province of Carchi (Ecuador). For this, a methodology with a mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative) was adopted: a questionnaire designed with bibliographic information was used as a compilation technique. A sample was chosen for convenience, consisting of 12 entrepreneurs, 12 traders, 6 investors, 12 entrepreneurs and 6 people from the unions. Some results are presented as correlations, in order to identify commercial and business economic development, technological innovation and human resources initiatives. The relevant conclusion is that the important aspect of commercial evolution in the study area is the entrepreneurial capacity of microentrepreneurs and their relationship with business innovation processes which allows capacity building, and skills in the management of business, administration and production.
