Tool for the evaluation of agroecological performance in small-scale dairy production systems

At a global level, agricultural production systems face problems that impact the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic and social. The adoption of increasingly developed agroecological practices would allow identifying, generating and proposing strategies aimed at environmentally friendly production. To meet this objective, in 2018 the FAO, together with world leaders, formulated and proposed the application of a tool for the evaluation of agroecological performance TAPE (Tool for Agroecology Performance Evaluation), whose objective sought to demonstrate the positive impact of agricultural practices. agroecologies in production systems, and evaluate their performance through a homogeneous method with data at similar scales and periods, in according to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Preliminary results of the application of the TAPE tool in production systems show that it can work in a variety of geographic regions and agroecosystems, in addition to adapting to different contexts, to evaluate agroecological performance based on elements that go beyond the classic indicators of sustainability evaluation, as was the case of small-scale dairy production systems (SPLPE) in the Northwest of the State of Mexico.
